Club 27

Club 27 is a group of popular musicians who died at the age of 27, the reason they died were often because of alchohol or drug abuse, sometimes even suicide. Brian Jones, Alan
Wilson, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and Jim Morrison died between 1969 and 1971.

Although they thought there was a connection, the official death-age was not reported to the puplic press, and remained as a side note.
It was untill the death of Kurt Cobain, which was about half a decade later, club 27 became an idea. To this day there is about 49 members of the club 27.

The most recent member of the club 27 is Amy Winehouse, she died the 23th July 2011, because of alchohol and drug abuse.

The song "28" by John Craige is about the club. Three of the verses is about to the deaths of Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin and Kurt Cobain.

Myth

There is a myth going around that Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin and Brian Jones each had a white lighter in their possession according to the autopsy report.

The theory is discredited by the fact that Jim Morrison was found in the bath and also that the myth suggested it was  BIC lighter (which weren't invented until 1974). Some people are still investigating further.
